Revolution of One is the title of a book, workshop, Empowerment Training, free resource packet, and Tour offered by Treesong (http://treesong.org/), an author and speaker living in Southern Illinois. All of these creative works are methods of introducing you to visionary strategies that empower you to reclaim your life and transform our world.
The new Empowerment Training has begun! Continuing Studies Classes are on Mondays at 5 pm at the Interfaith Center in Carbondale. One-on-One Empowerment Training is available by appointment. The Revolution of One is here!
For all of your life, you may have been told that creating a good life for yourself and others is beyond your power. You may believe that some separate force outside of yourself has to give you the power or permission to live the life of your dreams. "I could be happy and free if only [the government, the corporation, my boss, my landlord, my family, my spouse, etc.] would let me." Even if you never thought of it in those terms, you may have become obsessed with buying the right products or behaving the right way in order to secure some small measure of comfort and success. Therefore, your entire life may have been spent appeasing or fighting authority figures because you believed that somehow, some day, this would empower you to create a good life.
But has that day ever come? Even if you feel that it has, did they create it -- or did you?
The first Revolution of One occurs when you realize that you are already free to make your dreams a reality. No matter what limitations you may perceive all around yourself, you are already free. Your life, your freedom, your vision for a better reality, aren't prizes that can be won from outside sources. They already exist within you. All that remains is for you to turn the tables -- to say "the change that I desire in life starts with me." When you realize this, you become a Revolution of One.
But this is only the beginning of your revolutionary journey. All around you, others are coming to the same realization. As an isolated individual, you can only change the circumstances of your personal life. But together, as a community, you can co-create an entire new social, economic, political, and ecological reality where each individual charts the course of their own life and cooperates freely with others to make group decisions. For each of you, the journey shifts from the words "I am a Revolution of One" to the exclamation "We are a Revolution of One!"
This leap from individual to community empowerment is at the heart of your journey. Together, you and your fellow community members will create a common life beyond your wildest expectations. However, your community is only one among many. The third and final Revolution of One happens when many such communities throughout a bioregion unite. This "community of communities" creates a new society in which each individual's freedom is fully realized and the shared reality is created through free cooperation and direct democracy.
